07 - Bloom Anyway
Here we are on a Friday, headed into a weekend. I’ve spoken several times about the cons of weekend free time. Often when we are working on a dream, we get to the weekend, our normal schedule is different and rather than being a time of rest, it can turn into extra time on our hands to think and ponder on why things haven’t happened yet.
I know for me, many, many times, weekends were harder than the week. I spent them with all the time in the world to think up plans and strategies for how to monetize a business idea, but then ultimately I’d end up feeling in the end that whatever I had drafted up just didn’t seem right or in alignment.
The constant pressure to figure out how to make money left me disappointed and discouraged, especially when we were stuck at home with little extra cash.
Thankfully, through the years, the Lord has always sustained us in one way or another. I learned to make fun activities for the kids to do with whatever little we had to use.
I share this to say that if you face the weekend with trepidation, I get it. In these instances, I also learned to enjoy the little things—walking at sunset, a bubble bath, or watching the kids play in the rain or whatever silly thing they came up with to do.
Many times I have had to find the beauty where I was planted, even when the soil felt parched. I so love the images of a flower rising out and blooming out of a cracked section of soil.
It reminds me of what we have to do at times - bloom anyway. We don’t always have control over our circumstances, but we can do the best we can with where we’re at.
We may resent the cracked soil we’re planted in. We may wish everything was so much different. But in the end, we can bemoan the conditions we’re in, or we can bloom anyway.
So this weekend, if you’re feeling down, I want to encourage you to bloom anyway, friend.
Life in the end is way too short to not enjoy the vapor we have here. We only need to reflect on the tragic events of the last week and a half for the grim reminder that each day is a gift.
What will you do with your gift this weekend? Will you spend it worrying, or will you choose - even in cracked soil - to bloom anyway?
