17 - The Crown I Never Knew I Wore

There is a crown I’ve worn most of my adult life. It became so much a part of who I was that I didn’t realize I had it on.

I have been the Queen of Second-Guessing–mostly second-guessing myself and my ideas.

I can’t tell you how many journals I have full of ideas where I excitedly wrote down things in a moment, only to second-guess it hours later.

This ended up happening so often that I just quit writing ideas down. I became so discouraged that I’d never find something that seemed to really get past my inevitable “doubt” test.

But now that I’ve seen it, I can’t unsee it. I know that to move forward, the crown has to come off.

I tell my friend Jade that she is the queen of transforming spaces because of her special ability to take a blank canvas and create beauty there. My mother-in-law has a similar gift. She’s had the opportunity many times to take a house and make it a home through restoration, painting, decor, creativity and by pairing unique pieces into a warm, welcoming home - all on a budget!

In this season of life, I am challenging myself to put on a crown of clarity, courage, and vision.

And let me tell you - this is intentional work!

Maybe you’ve worn a crown that no longer serves you.

What is yours?

Fear? Insecurity? Perfectionism? Hopelessness?

As you identify what that crown is, you can visualize yourself removing it and placing something much different on.

It will be a conscious decision to remove the old crown daily and put something different on.

We make these types of choices daily. Choices to respond in love rather than frustration towards our kids or our spouse. Choices to show patience to clients at work or with our boss. This crown we remove and put on is another daily choice we make.

So when you hear the term he/she is the king/queen of this or that - think of the crown you currently wear.

Is it one to take off or keep on?

The good news is, crowns can be exchanged. Each day, we get to decide which one we’ll put on.

The crowns we choose shape the life we lead.

Which crowns will you choose?

Until tomorrow, friend.
